If you shoot outdoors regularly then I’m sure you’ve run into the common problem of having a completely boring sky! Often, the sky is more interesting in real life, but because you exposed for your subjects, your sky is over exposed and has little visual interest. If you haven’t completely blown the sky, then it can often be recovered in post production. Although you could use a brush to lower the exposure of the sky, one of my favourite (and quickest!) tools to use is the graduated filter.
In the video below I’ll show you how I use the graduated filter to recover the sky and how I use the erase brush to make my subjects stay properly exposed.
