Creativity Exercise: Beautiful Chores
So, I spent my whole day cleaning my house, and let me tell you, I LOATHE cleaning my house. My whole dream when I started my photography business was to make enough money to hire someone to clean my house. 5 years later, I’m at that point, but somehow still don’t have anyone here cleaning!
This week’s creativity exercise is to dig deep and to really find beauty in the ordinary.
On one of those days where it feels like all you’re doing is the stuff you have to do, grab your camera and make that chore beautiful.
How can you make this super mundane, repetitive task look new and fresh? Is it flare? Shadows? Movement? A different perspective? A close up? Backing up?
Before you groan at me. I KNOW. I know that pulling out your camera while you wash dishes, vacuum, make the bed, or scrub the sink seems like the last thing you’re going to want to do. BUT, hang in there with me as this is where the magic happens. This is where you have to really think about what makes this scene beautiful and what you have to work with. The task itself might not be exciting, so how are you going to change that?
Of course, you can set this up a self portrait, or just go ahead and make the rest of your family members do the work. :)
As always, have fun with it! I’d love to see what you come up with, so make sure to tag #unscriptedmentoring on IG so that I can find you.
